On the class wiki site, post your favorite new Web 2.0 tool that has not been covered in detail in this class that you have discovered in this course or elsewhere. List the URL, what the tool is, and why you find it useful using the wiki template page. No duplication allowed-each page must be an original new tool. This can be done after reviewing the Unit 9 material, which covers more Web 2.0 resources.
Emaze is a website that allows you to make a visual presentation that has animations and 3D features. You are able to choose a template of any kind. From there you can add your information, type, and make changes to suit presentation needs. You can change the font style, color, and size. You can add pictures, new slides, and many other items. My favorite part of this time of presentation is how it transitions from one slide to the next.
This website does not contain ads. Emaze is free to sign up, but you have the option to upgrade to three different levels. Each level contains a higher price, but more features. The price is on a per month basis. If you upgrade to pay a monthly fee, you can add on collaborators. Each level contains a certain amount of collaborators. There is only one type of log in. There are not different types for students, parents, or teachers. Emaze would be appropriate for use in school by staff members and students. I think grade three would be the best grade for students to begin learning to use Emaze.
Educational Uses of Site
Emaze could be used by students to create presentations for projects and public speaking assignments. Emaze could be used by teachers to create back to school night presentations, visuals for lessons, presentations for a faculty meeting, an engaging technology to hold student attention during lessons, etc. The use for this tool is endless and could be used by principals, reading specialists, and even parents at PTA meetings.
Review of Site
Like I mentioned previously I love the way the slides transition from one to the next. It really engages your eyes and leaves you wanting to know what is coming next. I think this is a step up from Powerpoint and I think students would enjoy not only making presentations on Emaze, but watching them during a teacher's lesson. I'm not a fan of the payment to upgrade, but I think the free account offers many opportunities that both teachers and students would enjoy.
I could see this website being projected onto my smartboard so I could walk my students through the process of using this website. In my opinion, students would need modeling and direction to use Emaze successfully. If you just throw it at your students with no instruction, it could be a train wreck.
